Textiles alumni Emily Holtzman describes her RISD senior degree project The Butterfly Effect as "a group of interactive works exploring the influence that outside forces have on young women as they come of age." Hear all about her process behind the project, from drawing ideas in her sketchbook to making hundred of knitted pieces on a hand flat knitting machine.

“I thought that I was going to major in illustration…I really, really liked drawing growing up. But then when I went on a tour of the Textiles department I got super excited about the equipment there. So I probably wouldn’t even know that a knitting machine existed if I didn’t go to RISD…which is sad.”
