Burden, economic impact and research gaps: Key findings from the Pan-European study on digestive diseases and cancers
Expert Speakers: Tanith Rose, UK and Luigi Ricciardiello, Italy
Chair: Pierre-Emmanuel Rautou, France (UEG Research Committee)
This is a recording of a live webinar held on June 22, 2023
Why to watch:
This webinar presented the key findings from the Pan-European study on digestive diseases commissioned by UEG, the “UEG White Book 2”. The publication of the White Book 2 in September 2022 in UEG Journal had an important outreach in the Digestive Health and more broadly in the public health communities, highlighting a worrying increase in the prevalence of several digestive diseases since 2000. Digestive diseases now affect over 300 million people across Europe and the Mediterranean area and that the associated economic costs are substantial. This report provides an international comparative analysis of the public health burden of digestive diseases and cancers, and an assessment of the economic impact of digestive diseases. It also gives an exploratory overview of research priorities, activity and funding in the field of digestive health in Europe.
