McLaren MP4-12C is a supercar, the world premiere of which took place in 2009 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The car went on sale in 2011. It was produced until 2014, after which it was replaced by the McLaren 650S.
The MP4-12C was McLaren's first to feature an in-house engine; the company previously collaborated with BMW (McLaren F1) and Mercedes (Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren).
V8 engine 3.8 l. called M838T made by the British. The engine, equipped with a VVT system and two turbochargers, produces 600 horsepower and the same number of Newton meters. The creators of the car note that 80% of the torque is available even up to 2000 rpm (the engine spins up to 8500 rpm).
The British used a one-piece carbon fiber monocoque MonoCell, to which the engine, chassis and attachments made of aluminum and carbon fiber are mounted. The spatial structure itself is strong and light (80 kg).
The MP4-12C made its motorsport debut at the 2011 SPA 24 Hours, where three cars were entered. Only one of them reached the finish line in 25th place overall. In subsequent years, McLaren also competed at the SPA 24 Hours, with a best result of ninth place in 2012. In 2015 it was replaced by the McLaren 650S GT3, the best crew of which finished in 18th place.
