In this video, I will be showing you a complete guide on how to grow Epiphyllum from cuttings. A brief summary of what I talked about in the video is as follows:

Epiphyllums are a group of epiphytic cacti that originate from the forests of southern Mexico through Central America and to the northern parts of South America. They are great plants for any collector as they produce large showy flowers. Natural varies have white flowers that only last for one night whilst many cultivars have a range of colours from pinks, reds, yellows, etc. which lasts a few days.

Epiphyllums require more water and less sun than desert cacti, making them a great candidate to grow under cover. During the growing season (spring and summer), they can be watered several times a week, and in winter, watering should be cut down to only around once a month. They cannot tolerate any amount of frost.

Propagation by cuttings are very straightforward and can be done during the growing season. Take a piece of growth that has hardened off and cut it off, allowing it to callous for 1-3 days. Then plant in some well draining soil and give it the same care for mature plants, but ensure the substrate almost drys out fully before watering as the roots have not developed yet. Once the cutting plumps up, you will know that you have succeeded in propagating the plant and sooner or later, new growth will emerge.

Cuttings from plants that have already flowered may be able to flower in as little as 2 years and in order to get a much fuller planting much faster, plant at least 2-3 cuttings in a pot as they can still thrive with multiple individuals in one pot (they do not mind their roots being constricted).
