As part of #TradeDecoratorFestival Mike Swan, Curriculum and Quality Leader at Dundee and Angus College and WorldSkills UK Training Manager for Painting and Decorating, will be joined by Worldskills UK squad competitors Lewis Boyle and Thomas Nowell, both are hoping to achieve team qualification to representative the UK in the WorldSkills Competition Shanghai October 2022.

A number of initiatives have been launched to help support young people, the group most disproportionately affected by this pandemic, get their first step on the career ladder. However, as we work to help as many as possible through work placements and apprenticeships, we mustn’t lose our focus on quality argues Mike Swan, lecturer at Dundee and Angus College and WorldSkills UK Training Manager for Painting and Decorating. In this session, Mike will be joined by Worldskills UK squad competitors, Lewis Boyle and Tom Nowell, who under Mike’s guidance are training towards representing the UK at the WorldSkills Competition, known as the ‘Skills Olympics’ in Shanghai China in October, to discuss why skills competitions are increasingly playing a vital role in attracting young people to consider a career in construction and how they can be used to upskill apprentices and the wider workforce. Join Mike, Lewis and Tom to find out how your organisation can benefit from WorldSkills UK and its programmes.

WorldSkills UK is all about helping young people go further, faster in their careers, and achieve excellence at work gaining the skills that employers need most. We help young people from all backgrounds get the best start in work and life.
