Rock and Roll's Mad Scientist, Edgar Winter tells the story of creating the 1970s classic rock masterpiece Frankenstein. It was a 20 minute jam that the band the Edgar Winter Group decided to edit down to a manageable rock instrumental to throw on the album as an extra cut. The Band had the tape draped all over the studio and made cuts here and there, when the drummer said It's like a Frankenstein monster so the title stuck. Frankenstien ended up as a B-side to their 3rd single after their first few songs had failed to chart. A DJ turned the record around and played the B-side and everyone flipped out. This Lyric-less 70s rock jam became a #1 smash making it the only rock instrumental in history to do so! It also opened the door for another massive hit, the 70s classic Freeride with Dan Hartman on lead vocals. Edgar Winter tells us the story in this exclusive interview on professor of rock.
