I sowed some poppy seeds in the snow back on February 5, 2022. I also sowed additional poppy seeds using the Winter Sowing Method. I decided that I would also try to throw down additional poppy seeds early this Spring while we are still getting cool weather, and even some freezing temps over night. Hopefully we have just enough cool nights left to help the seeds experience some additional cold stratification. Cold stratification is the process of exposing seeds to a period of cold, which helps the seeds germinate. Some seeds require this treatment. Others do not. I sowed a number of varieties of poppies this year which included, Amazing Grey Poppies, Hungarian Blue Poppies, Lilac Pom Pom Poppies, California Poppy Apple blossom Chiffon, as well as the traditional red poppy papaver somniferum. I'm am very excited and hopeful about getting lots of poppy blooms this year! They are gorgeous and are among my favorite annuals.
