Hey guys! Today I am going to show you how to make hanging tassels that can be added to your work. You can add them as pieces that hang off of your dowel or you can add them to other areas of your work (for example to add extra detail to a front layer of your work).

Set Up
Cut 2 pieces of rope (each piece is approx. 1 meter long). Fold each piece in half and attach the them to your dowel using Lark’s Head knots.

I’m going to start by tying 7 half square knots in a spiral. If you are unfamiliar with this spiral pattern please click here for a more in-depth tutorial:    • Macrame For Beginners - 28 Days of Kn...

Please note: *If you’d like to create a longer spiral section you will need to cut more rope. When tying spiral knots, the working cords (the outside cords) are used to tie the knots and require much more rope than filler cords (the inner cords). When attaching your rope to your dowel I would recommend folding your rope into 3 sections then attaching to your dowel so that 2 sections (2/3 of the rope length) is on the outside of your work and 1/3 is on the inside of your work. This way you will have extra rope for your working cords.

Cut 6 pieces of rope, each piece is 9 inches in length. Using your working cords, attach the 6 pieces to your work by tying a double knot underneath the cords. Make sure the 6 cords are even on both sides.

Cut another piece of cord that is 14 inches in length. Tie a gathering knot at the top of your work. Wrap the cord around your work 4 times.

If you are unfamiliar with the gathering knot please click here for a more in-depth tutorial:    • Macrame For Beginners - 28 Days of Kn...

Cut off the end at the top of the gather knot. You can also cut off the end at the bottom but I typically leave mine as it blends in with the tassel.

Cut your tassel to your desired length - I’ve cut mine to be approx. 3 1/2 inches long. Leave as is or brush it out. Cut the ends.

Thanks so much for watching!
