Easy fix for your broken R50/R52/R53 air conditioner! Most common failure is a bad clutch coil. No need to evacuate/recharge system. Mechanic's eye view of the repair. Save money and replace it yourself. Generation 1 MINI Cooper / Cooper S. This is the most common reason for an AC failure on a Gen 1 MINI!

No need to evacuate or recharge the cooling system, but we do so on this car because it had a low charge. Do this if your air conditioner is not working. No need to evacuate coolant or replace compressor, condenser or dryer. When adding charge, be sure to purge atmosphere out of the line first to ensure it is full of refrigerant only (squirt some refrigerant through the line first)
