This is the second video in the series on central Moreton bay. I want to keep the videos to between 10 and 15 minutes and that is hard to do. This video goes for the full 15 minutes and as I listened to this after it was finished, I thought of a dozen more things I could have mentioned.

I should have mentioned that if you are fishing near the shallow reefs of a night-time then make sure you are in deep enough water that your boat won’t end up on the coral if it swings on the anchor at low tide while you are catching a nap. If you aren’t sure and you need to grab a few hours sleep it might be a good idea to head around to Horseshoe Bay or Myora for a safer anchorage, or at least move out a bit further from the reef while you sleep.

I also wanted to say that all the fishing I have done around Peel was done using bait. The main baits I have used are squid, prawns and pilchards. Of these I have always done best on squid and the best fish I have caught around Peel were nearly all caught on fresh squid. When I had the big boat, I used to get squid in Horseshoe Bay of a night-time and jump in the tender first up in the morning to go catch breakfast, lunch and dinner.

I have put about a dozen and a half GPS marks in the video to get you started but the best advice I can give you is not to fish on the marks. Over the years (since I have been using a fish finder) I doubt if I have fished in the same spot twice in a row. The fish might be nearby, or they might have moved off entirely, but they will seldom be in the same spot they were yesterday. Use the marks as a guide if you like but the most important thing is the yellow line, drawn around parts of the island. These are the areas I usually sound, and I fish a little outside of them if I see something on the sounder to justify the effort.

Most of the other things I could have said also apply to other areas so I will cover them as the series progresses.
