This renovation project was to an existing North facing single storied load bearing structure located in a quiet residential hub of (West) Bangalore, in India.

The primary challenge and focus of the project was to add a duplex house on the terrace. There were no apparent immediate problems in the building, but for the obvious challenge which was to suit the owner's spatial requirements and their aspirations within a tight budget. By introducing roof slabs spaced at 2.5 Meters (8'6"), instead of the usual 3.0 meters (10'0") and by making a part of the Roof with a Mild Steel Fabrication, the client's budget and spatial requirements were addressed. This approach also made the building relatively lighter and thus cut down on the overall material requirements as well. Part of the fabricated roof had glass tiles which brought in a good amount of daylight into the building. Wall Colour was seen as an element to experiment and highlight the otherwise restrained building finishes.

From the outside, the building's was consciously designed to blend in with the neighborhood's character on the lower floor, while other aesthetics were explored on the upper floors.

All in all a very enjoyable project for the Client as well as us, its Designers.
