Interviewee: Witt, Laurel, MD
Interviewer: Weiler, Morgan, MS3
Collection: Covid-19 History
Dr. Witt is a faculty member in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Kansas City.
She described working at the onset of the Covid-19 crisis, when there were many unknowns, and of the lessons the department has learned in the past year. During that year, education of medical students transitioned from in-person to remote learning, then to a mix of the two methods.
Community medicine has come into more of a focus during that time as well. She faced her own challenges in adapting to the new demands and feels as if she has learned more about self-care and wellness. She sees the future involving more telemedicine and believes that family medicine is poised to become community medicine in new ways.
