I usually ride in the shoulder, but on PCH on weekends it's packed with cars so often there's no room at all. This kind of riding is pretty common in major cities but you don't see it that often in LA. Lane splitting is legal in California for motorcycles, so motorists are generally pretty aware of the space between lanes and often make room for you when they see you coming. I rode like this from Pepperdine all the way to Santa Monica, didn't slow down any motorists, and I don't think I even got honked at.
I'm not saying try this yourself exactly, but LA is mostly flat, the weather is perfect, parking is hell, and bikes are fun. If anyone sees this and decides to take their bike to the beach or the office or grocery store next time instead of sitting in their car all day, I consider that a victory.
