We often get really challenging questions in the guitar department, both in person and online, such as:

1. Which guitar sounds the best?
2. Why do some guitars cost so much more money than others?
3. Do USA made (often $3000 CAD) acoustic guitars that much better?
4. Does all solid wood make a difference in sound?

Hard questions call for a video -- so we present to you "Attack of the Killer Dees" (Dreadnoughts) to help answer some of these questions.

Markus got to play recording engineer while Shon did his best to repeat the same chords as accurately as a guitar playing android might hope to!

Maar's Music is a family owned, locally staffed music store located in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. We've been providing great tips, advice, gear and service for over 30 years.

Two of the "Killer Dees" are all solid wood and made in the USA, one is solid and made in Mexico and there's also a solid top, HPL back and sides model to complete our dreadnought quartet.

To make it more nuanced, no two guitars share the same finish, neck joint, materials and factory -- lots of fun to listen to. We picked simple chords that would remind you of a song that was originally recorded with a Martin D-35 and hopefully you'll find something positive about all of the instruments we recorded -- we certainly appreciate all of these excellent guitars and would be happy to tell you about them.

Which four guitars did we feature in this video?
Answer: Four timeless dreadnoughts from ‪@martinguitar‬
Martin D-18
Martin D-15M
Martin D-10E
Martin D-X2E

Which order are they in?
You'll need to give us your best guess!

How did we record them?
‪@blacklionaudio5271‬ One of our favourite USB interfaces, a Black Lion Audio Revolution 2x2 connected to a Lewitt LCT240 Pro condenser microphone about 12" from the neck joint of the guitar.

Shon didn't move between takes -- we handed guitars to him.
All guitars are new and used factory installed Martin strings (may differ by model). No EQ or tone processing was used on the "blindfold" guitar recordings.

Note: camera audio was used for voices and the guitar playing at the end of the video.
