Taiwanese director and visual artist Yuen Hsieh returns to NOWNESS Experiments with a thrilling extension of his original dystopian universe of revolutionary technologies, corporate surveillance and weaponised Big Data networks, and endless body modifications, where the lines between life and afterlife, cyberspace and reality have blurred beyond recognition.

In Digital Body Copyright, Hsieh collaborates with the Japanese extreme black metal gabber music group and performance art unit Violent Magic Orchestra (VMO) to imagine a futuristic red light district in Osaka. Beyond overwhelming neon lights and enticing signs advertising desire, sex and the ideal self, shadowy entities deal in people’s data and hold the key to the most profound existential questions of the era.
