This was an unexpected turn of events! On March 16, 2024, CN 122 had a rather rare visitor in the consist. A former Illinois Central SD40-3 (SD40-2 with updated electrical equipment) was on the train, and right on the head end as the leader, what are the odds?

Because of issues with the trailing GE units, the venerable SD40 had to lead the train, much to the delight of local railfans in the area. I got an early heads up for the train and waited for it at Paris Junction. This was the catch of the year and something that is unlikely to ever happen again. So many little things had to line up properly for this to happen but it did!
