In this seminar or dialogue conducted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sharifah Munirah Alatas with students and academics in Universiti Malaysia Sabah, she discussed issues in higher education that go beyond just the material aspects of life; beyond the emphasis on ‘human capital,’ and even beyond the current global university rankings system. Discussions also centred on issues concerning the need for greater inter-disciplinarity and critical thinking in the Malaysian education system, which would allow both students and lecturers to pursue academic interests beyond just their respective fields of specialisation.
