While facing corruption and hardship in the slums of Kibera, Boniface Mwangi found solace and his voice through photography. Kicked out of school at 14 and having to deal with his mother's death around the same time, Boniface found himself in bible school. While there, he read a book on a famous photographer who inspired him to pick up a camera. Later on, during election time in 2008, Boniface worked as a photographer for a local newspaper. The violence he saw during this time not only traumatized him, but also inspired him to use his photos to shed light on the hate. Since then, Boniface uses his skills to inform people on government corruption. He tells his fellow citizens that they are the answers to their own problems and to not look to politicians for help. He says that everyone in Kibera has a sad story, but they have to take a grasp of their situation now, because now is their time.
