"Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few" said British Prime Minister Winston Churchill about the pilots taking part in the Battle of Britain. The pilots of No. 303 Squadron were particularly proud of such expressions of appreciation. Their contribution to saving the United Kingdom was difficult to overestimate. In a clash with the power of the German air force - the Luftwaffe, they turned out to be the most effective unit of the royal air force - the Royal Air Force (RAF).

Success, personal charm and complicated biographies made Poles the favorites of the press. Reporters who met them personally and learned about their daring and extremely effective fighting style filled English newspapers with reports from the heroic Poles. Britain needed such heroic allies, and the legend of 303 Squadron grew.

Arkady Fiedler wrote: "Victory in the Battle of Britain not only saved the entire Empire from destruction, but also freed humanity from the evil spell..., people became convinced that the Nazis could be beaten, that they were not invincible, that their weapons, although terrible, were not is all-powerful.”

303 Squadron became a legend. It appeared in films, books (Arkady Fiedler's "Dywizjon 303") and songs. In the town of Napoleon near Częstochowa, the "303 Museum named after Lt. Col. Pilot Jan Zumbach" was created with the heroes of the 303 Squadron in mind.
