In today’s episode we explore the main #attractions of Pythagoreio and we get information about its stunning beaches.

Pythagoreio is a #picturesque #town of 7500 residents, located on the island of Samos, in Greece, at the eastern part of the #Aegean sea and very close to the #Turkish coasts. It is easily accessible through Samos #airport and the main #port that connects Samos with #Piraeus port and major #Greek #islands.

The town was renamed in 1955 to honour the locally born #mathematician and #philosopher #Pythagoras. The #archaeological remains in the town, known collectively as Pythagoreion, has designated a joint #UNESCO World Heritage Site with nearby #Heraion, a large #sanctuary dedicated to the goddess Hera. The port of the town is considered to be the oldest man-made port of the #Mediterranean Sea. These archaeological sites offer a deep dive into the island’s rich #history and ancient #civilization.

Some ruins of the ancient city are today incorporated in modern houses of Pythagorio. Overlooking the town, the #Castle of #Lykourgos Logothetis was built in the 19th century during the Greek War of Independence. The castle’s ruins offer a glimpse into the island’s turbulent past and provide panoramic views of Pythagoreio and the surrounding area. The site is also home to a small #museum with exhibits on local history. The historical church nearby worth your attention.

At a close distance lies the #archaeological museum.

One of the most remarkable #engineering feats of ancient Greece, the #Tunnel of #Eupalinos is an ancient #aqueduct that once supplied water to Pythagoreio. Built in the 6th century BC, the tunnel stretches over a kilometer and is a testament to the ingenuity of ancient engineers. Visitors can take guided #tours to explore this fascinating underground structure.

The #statue of Pythagoras is an impressive monument that honors the great mathematician and philosopher, located at the town’s harbour.

Pythagorio is one of the most visited places of Samos since it has many archaeological sites as well as a big sandy beach and a modern marina. Discover the picturesque alleys, the waterfront promenade with its typical greek taverns and cafes and enjoy the greek hospitality at its best!

The town’s beach is offering refreshing moments of #summer pleasure!

Just a short #distance from the town center and the archaeological #park, Potokaki Beach is a long, pebbly stretch with crystal-clear waters. It is well-organized, offering #sunbeds, umbrellas, and various water #sports facilities. The beach's proximity to Pythagoreio and its amenities make it a popular choice with awesome view towards the castle.

Nestled in a small bay just south of Pythagoreio, #Glicorisa Beach is a beautiful spot with clear blue waters and a mix of sand and pebbles.

Don’t miss the chance to discover the secrets of the east through a daily #excursion to #Turkey and #Kusadasi.

Pythagoreio, with its beautiful beaches, rich history, and charming atmosphere, will steal your heart! Whether you're lounging on the sandy shores, marveling at the engineering genius of the Tunnel of Eupalinos, or strolling through the picturesque streets of the town, Pythagoreio promises an unforgettable experience. Discover the magic of Samos Island, where ancient wonders and natural beauty come together to create lasting memories.
