Former Sesame Street head writer Norman Stiles joins me for episode #29 of Nostalgia Talk!
Norman was the show's head writer for nearly 20 years, writing such episodes as Snuffy being revealed to the human cast, Maria announcing her pregnancy, Big Bird leaving for camp, and the famous episode where Big Bird is told that Mr. Hooper had died. Norman also created the characters of The Count, Harvey Kneeslapper, and Forgetful Jones and wrote segments featuring Julia Roberts, Mandy Patinkin, Marisa Tomei, Hilary Clinton, and Blair Underwood. Norman also co-wrote the songs "Do-Op Hop," "Google Bugle," "Exit," "Put Down the Duckie," "Dance Myself To Sleep," "Elmo's Five Jive," "Handful of Crumbs," "Monster In the Mirror," "Telephone Rock," and "Where Can You Be, B?"
Most of the songs that Norman wrote for Sesame Street were co-written alongside of Chris Cerf, with whom Norman co-created the TV series Between the Lions.
