Betty Dreams to Dance Samoan
Betty Boop was created by brothers Max and Dave Fleischer around 1930. Betty became an instant success and quickly achieved the status of a Hollywood persona, often being compared to film stars such as Greta Garbo. Betty Boop animated shorts elevated the status of the cartoon from opening act to movie theater draw.

Betty Boop’s popularity provided an opportunity for guest performers such as The Royal Samoans to reach American movie audiences. The footage I use in “Betty Dreams to Dance Samoan” is of The Royal Samoans performing for the intro to “Betty’s Bamboo Isle” and of Betty performing her own version of the same Samoan dance later in the film (topless I might add). Betty you tart!

Imagery taken from "Betty Boop's Bamboo Isle" featuring The Royal Samoans (1932). Presented by Max Fleischer, directed by Dave Fleischer, animated by Seymour Kneitel and Bernard Wolf. Imagery edited, processed, and re-mixed by Dave Tilton.

NOTE: An important Talkertoons audio statement is included at the end of the film credits.
