How to plant a Japanese Maple (acer) in pots and containers to make a wonderful focal point in your garden or yard. Japanese maples are gorgeous trees that have very delicate feather like leaves. Its important to plant them properly as they can be very temperamental.

You want to give them a shady or part shaded area that is free from wind (as best you can!) and give them correct soil type to give them a good chance.

A 50:50 mix of ericaceous and normal compost is ideal as this provides a slightly acidic environment but the compost means it will retain the moisture to stop them drying out.

Prune November to March whilst they are dormant.
