Hey, gear heads! We're back again with another edition of Bored To Death! This episode features veteran session, recording musician and artist Tokie, bassist of Losalios, and the reunited quartet Ajico. She is also featured on the new Boris album "W." Tokie takes us through her signal chain, revealing that her pedal board is really two boards in one. The left side is for her electric bass and the right for her upright, allowing her to quickly switch during a show. Tokie hasn't always used pedals as part of her rig. "I started using lots of pedals because I discovered EQD," she says." Even if I use lots of them, it keeps my bass tone intact."Tokie uses two Tone Jobs on her upright bass. The first is primarily for a signal boost, and the other is used to dial in the perfect tone. She has an old-school Ghost Echo to add ambience and a volume pedal to keep the levels equal when switching between bowing and pizzicato playing. For the electric, Tokie has a Rodenbergdirt pedal, a One Control Blue Mongerand she's recently added the EQD Hizumitas for extra fuzz love. She augments all that with the ever-popular Sansamp bass driver when she "wants an attacky sound" and that good dirty bass growl. Tokie also shows how she uses the Swiss Things Pedalboard Reconciler to switch between the Rodenberg dirt pedal and a different set of OD/fuzz effects combo on the fly. Her tidy board also features a DI, signal splitter, and a custom-made power supply from Eva Denshi. She also uses a single cabinet with a three-channel TC Electronics amp head to set her tones for each instrument separately and easily switch them via the amp head. She even makes her own power cables! Learn and enjoy as Tokie picks, plucks, and bows to show us exactly how she gets the tone she wants from her basses and applies them to her many musical projects and sessions.
