Hey everybody. Today, we're going to be going over and showing you how to install the Curt T-connector wiring harness here on our 2020 Mazda MX-5 Miata. So this is what our trailer connector is going to look like installed. We actually have it installed on the outside of the vehicle here using a couple brackets, which are sold separately, or you can choose to have it wrapped up inside the vehicle. It's really going to come down to preference or how often you'll be tailing. On the outside of the vehicle, it's going to be a little bit more accessible here.

It's also going to be more subject to corrosion issues because we have obviously the debris and elements getting to it. However, you're not going to have those issues if it's inside the vehicle, that's going to be a little bit less convenient because we're actually going to be draping it out the weatherstripping in our trunk. So our kit here is going to provide us with the most standard type of connection, which is a 4-Pole Flat. This 4-Pole Flat is going to contain the left and right stop and turn signal circuits, as well as the running light circuits. However, if we need to adapt it to a 5-Way or even possibly 7-Way, we do sell adapters here at etrailer, that'll allow for this.

So mind you, our Curt T-connector harness here is a powered module, and what this does is it basically pulls power from the battery rather than pulling power from the tail light circuits. So you don't have to worry about any issues happening with the vehicle's tail lights, assuming there was something wrong with the trailer. Everything is going to be protected here on the vehicle, so you don't have to worry about any issues carrying over. So in regards to installation, this is actually going to be a plug and play kit, meaning we don't have to do any splicing into the vehicle. We do as we said, have to run a power wire to the battery, but aside from that everything's pretty straightforward.

Let's go ahead and jump into the installation now, so we can show you guys how to do it at home. So the first step of our installation, we're going to have this little storage tray here, we need to remove that. There's going to be one push pin fastener down at the bottom and then we're going to have two at the top here. These are what they look like. We'll simply just pry the center out.

We should be able to remove it, and then we can just simply take our tray out. So now we need to begin by removing this store covering here, in order to do so we're going to have a pushpin fastener, top that one loose, and then we're going to have a couple more on the outside here, pry the center of them up. We should be able to remove it the rest of the way. Now we should be able to remove this line. So next, we're going to remove this back panel here again, we're just going to have some of these push pin fasteners. Hold those out. Then next we're going to remove our two side panels. Again we're just going to have some of these various fasteners located throughout the panel. So I've got the two side panels loosened actually, before we can remove them completely, it looks like we're going to have to take out this main plastic panel here next. So we are going to have an electrical connector here on the inside. So we're going to need to depress that tab there, we should be able to pull it out. With our connector moved, we can remove the panel completely and now we can get to the remaining fasteners here for the side panels. We'll just have one more on either side here. Let me pull that out. So now that we have our panels removed, if we look in here to either side, I'm very inside here, we're going to see these white square connectors we'd actually want to follow that wire that goes to our tail light, so what we'll do is there'll be a little tab there we need to depress so we can remove that connector. And then we're actually going to take our wiring harness here, you can see it's going to match up with our connectors here, we simply just plug the ones in together that match, just like that. So now we'll take the other connector with our green wire, we'll route that over to the passenger side. So in order to keep our wire secure we sometimes just taped it here using some clear tape to the body, making sure that we avoid any of the mounting holes we need to use, but basically this is going to keep it in place, we don't have to worry about it getting misplaced or getting caught up in these panels here. So the next thing we're going to do is we're going to be securing our converter box using the double-sided tape that comes in our kit here, looks like
