The people have spoken: Pizza is your ultimate New York City icon!

We asked and the people answered in a multi-week tournament to crown the ultimate icon. Across both ‪@amnewyork‬ and ‪@whatisnewyork‬ Instagram accounts, tens of thousands of people voted to determine the winner of this competition. In the end, the cheesy goodness that is the New York slice of pizza prevailed, taking home the crown!

Pizza had a long battle ahead of it, easily taking out Black and White Cookies and Bagels in the early rounds of competition. After taking on (and taking out) the Bacon Egg and Cheese, Pizza took down the Times Square Ball Drop, leaving the classic New Year’s Eve tradition in the dust to go up against the top seed on the other side of the bracket: Rats.

We met up with Philomena’s Pizza and ‪@nyc_kb‬ to celebrate Pizza winning by creating a Custom New York Pizza Championship belt and gave out Free Pizza.
