Dub Caravan creates an Arabic reggae instrumental called “Reggae Sharqi” ( الريغي الشرقي ) fusing the rhythms and feeling of classic Jamaican reggae with classical Arabic instruments and scales. Along for the journey is Syrian master musician Mohamad Fityan ( محمد فتيان ) who plays the Kawala. The Kawala ( كاوالا ) is an Arabic flute usually found in Egyptian folk music but not limited to only Egyptian music. The word Sharqi in Arabic means “Eastern” or “Oriental”.
