The Canadian queen of all things vocal made us weep last night after she broke down on and off the stage.
After losing her brother AND her husband in the same week, and that’s AFTER an exhausting 18 year battle by her husband with throat cancer, you could tell the powerhouse that is Celine Dion was trying to keep herself together while onstage at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards. First she delivered an empowering cover of Queen’s “The show must go on.” Following her performance Celine remained onstage where- to her surprise- her eldest, 15 year old son emerged onstage to give her the Billboard Icon Award. She immediately broke down in tears. Even her son seemed shocked by his mom’s emotional state.
Celine even asked him to stay beside her onstage.
What a beautiful moment. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Celine explained that she nearly fell over with emotion. QUOTE "To try to perform that song without collapsing was big enough and then I turned around and I saw my son… I thought I was going to make it through the whole night without tears and show strength, and love won." She said that backstage she just let the emotion take over. QUOTE "I just collapsed. I'm very thankful for the award and proud of my family so much."
