”Navigating themes of divine love, relationships, life’s turbulances and moments of peace, Gitanjali is a baptism of classic poetry and Bengali culture. This new illustrated edition by Folio places a spotlight on an essential work that helped to expand the canon of modern poetry beyond the western plains and introduced audiences to one of the most important writers in 20th century literature.” https://www.foliosociety.com/usa/gita...

Here we have ’Gitanjali’ by Rabindranath Tagore, translated by him from the original Bengali, it was published by the Folio Society in 2024. This edition comes with two introductions: one by W.B. Yeats and one by Amit Chaudhuri. This is the first ever illustrated edition of Gitanjali, and it’s illustrated with woodcuts by Anagh Banerjee.

This edition is bound in printed and blocked cloth with a design by the illustrator for this edition.
The book is Smyth-sewn and printed on Abbey Pure paper, it’s acid-free, pH neutral, quite thick and has a warm creamy color. The illustrations are printed on the same paper. The books is printed and bound in Slovakia.

Overall this is a lovely edition that does Tagore’s poetry justice, and I’m pleased Folio Society decided to make it and I hope they will publish more Indian and Bengali writers in the future.
