Tai Lung (voice portrayed by Ian McShane) Is the main antagonist of the first instalment of Kung Fu Panda.
His story was one destined for upmost greatness. Everyday he surpassed his physical limits until his boned snapped, until he was denied his destiny. He himself snapped. He was essentially a tool Shifu did not need anymore. Furious, Tai Lung lay waste to the Valley of Peace leaving Oogway and Shifu no choice but to subdue this broken warrior.
Tai Lung's theme is this angry, livid and endeavouring array of sounds. With harsh stringed sounds, and reflective versions of the motif played on classical instruments like the Erhu. You feel his rage, the thought of spending so many years being bigged up, only for it to be taken. And then spending twenty more years incapacitated because of this. Not to mention the violent and unrestrained vocal iteration of his motif, found in Shifu and Tai Lung. Just a rush unbridled rage.
Kung Fu Panda's soundtrack is just flawless, and should be where any aspiring composers draw some inspiration from.
