Many come to therapy to blame everything on their mothers. They think whatever is wrong with them is the result of what their mother's did or didn't do to them. But therapy is not a place where you come to be relieved of your guilt. Guilt is actually a good thing. Therapy is a place you come to be relieved of your shame. Guilt is about what you did, Shame is about who you are.
