A banner of Russian president Vladimir Putin was lowered by political activists during a campaign speech by Reform UK leader Nigel Farage at an event in the Columbine Centre in Essex.

Farage was speaking about what children are taught in history classes as a poster bearing the image of Putin with the caption 'I ♡ Nigel' suddenly appeared. The stunt was organised by the Led by Donkeys group. Farage has been facing backlash after saying Nato and the EU's eastward expansion provoked Putin to launch an invasion of Ukraine
