Our maiden voyage after the refit! Finally finally finally we are sailing TONLEI. Our first crossing, from Gran Canaria to Tenerife. This is a stretch of water that has fierce reputation for strong winds and big waves. The famous acceleration zones between the two volcanic islands has surprised many a sailor with is abrupt change in windspeed. The windspeed often surpasses the forecast by as much as 10-15 knots! We chose the one day with a forecast around 15 knots, hoping that this time the forecast would be alright and we would have a wonderful sail in our newly refitted steel sailboat.
