The Hurricane(1998)set to Academy award winner Denzel Washington portrays Rubin 'Hurricane' Carter played in this scene experiencing a "Dark Night Of The Soul"
The Dark Night of the Soul is not just a confrontation of the void but a head first dive without a parachute and then ultimately discovering its a pillow bed . (Super ,Ego, Id)
Deep down a part of us knows something has to drastically change in our life, but we don’t know what or where to look. The DKOTS is facing the accumulation or culmination of all our suffering emotional and physical(anger worry fear pain etc ) from past and present .It can be the most tormenting, horrifying and excruciating experience ever but at the same time it will also be the most paradigm-shattering , illuminating, awe-inspiring, experience you could ever go through.
The experience is also known as “ego death".
Rubin realizes he has been driven by his anger and it runs deep .His anger was sparked from fear ;it grew as a means of survival /protection and it consumed him .He poured everything into becoming an anger and fighting machine..He got the spoils of war but it didn't help him . (not really ) .His anger (and the anger of others ) only caused him separation and isolation; a prisoner literally and metaphysically .
Spoiler
By means of a traumatic experience Rubin looses everything he every had even the promise of a future life. In these thoughts he learns to identify his destructive and limiting beliefs and behavior patterns, and lets them go and focus on the inner light of his life.
First learning to how separate his mind and heart from the soul of the outside world then eventually completely offering himself back to it .
