I cannot, no, I should not be here writing this description up. The fact that I am now here writing this should have never happened.


After beating Frozen Cave I wanted to beat a new hardest as my then hardest level RUST did not satisfy me enough the the point that I could call it a genuine HARDEST completion. Oblivion back in the day was a level that I have always found interesting due to it being the official Cognition sequel and me being very excited to see more progress during the verification progress. Though, the level got verified but never rated I had one goal: Beating Oblivion as a new hardest and first victor and subsequently make people aware that this level should get rated. It felt like the only thing that dice88 deserved in my eyes. Now I obviously knew that beating a new hardest wouldn't be easy however the scariest thing about Oblivion was the fact that by the time I started it I didn't even know how hard it was. The only opinion that has been given on the level was dice's which said "at least harder than Cognition" and the rumours were that Oblivion while being significantly harder than Cognition was not comparable to the likes of Tartarus or The Golden. So when I started getting progress slowly and surely I thought at that time that it would be tough but wouldn't take me very long. I was wrong. Not just wrong but horribly wrong.

Oblivion turned out to be the biggest jump in difficulty that I have ever done. If rated by the time I started it I would have jumped from #25 to #3 or #4 (depending on if you consider arcturus above or below Tartarus). The longer I played the level the more apparent it got. Oblivion absolutely demanded every bit of patience that was inside me and I cannot deny that there were multiple instances where I completely broke down mentally and physically because of the level being so hard and me not being skilled enough to make this a completion comparable to others. In retrospect, if I knew back then how hard Oblivion actually was I would have very likely never gone for it. I cannot change the past though.

I know I said after beating Aronia that I doubt that anything is gonna top Aronia in how bad an experience with a level could be. Oblivion proved me otherwise. It was without a doubt the most I have struggled with any level so far and even until the day of the completion I didn't feel confident in actually beating the level. While I do not want to talk a lot about the level's gameplay here I just want to say that getting progress on this level may very well be easy but completing it is a whole other task. The level plays significantly different from zero and every run that I did gave me the false assurance that it might be over soon. It was an absolute mental task that against all odds I succeeded in. However now I just absolutely feel burnt out to the very core of my soul and will take a break from the game.

This completion probably defines what I am as a player. I may not be as skilled as many others however I think I have shown that with enough patience and perseverance any goal is reachable. In the end though, after all that has happened, this is the end result. And no matter what happens in the future nobody is going to take away from me what I accomplished and I cannot feel any prouder of that.
