Just seven months in to Harry Redknapp’s tenure, Managing Director Peter Storrie announces that transfer spending is already over budget and there is no more cash available for the foreseeable future. The warning bells should be starting to ring. With Redknapp’s reputation for wheeling and dealing it seems there could be trouble ahead if nothing gives. Even more trouble if West Ham were to go down. With the new North Stand opening, debts are mounting. One point out of nine from Everton Chelsea and Norwich doesn’t look like opening the coffers anytime soon. A win at struggling Arsenal looks to be a blip when Newcastle win easily in the next game. But then after coming back from 2-0 down against Norwich in a bizarre game, The Hammers go on a bit of an unbeaten run, winning at Villa and drawing at Southampton and Forest. Home form will be the key in the final run-in. It’s looking perilous.
