When Charley Pride started out, his producer was nervous about pushing a black artist to a mostly white country music fan base. In fact, when his record label sent out radio stations, no photo was included. Just a label that read "Country Charley Pride". His sister asked him why he was performing "their music", but his response was "It's my music, too." He talks about how he broke through in country music as a black artist to Dan Rather on The Big Interview.
