The paintwork on my Porsche 911 996.1 Carrera might be shiny and new, but underneath the car is a different story. Now 22-years old, my 996 C2 is a tired 911 with a chassis badly in need of replenishment.

The 'need now' list for parts were as follows: four lower control arms, four tuning forks, four control arms for the rear, two toe arms, and two track rod ends. Traditionally I've relied on original Porsche parts, but the bill for all the above was huge and unplanned. I've therefore looked at aftermarket options for the first time, going with a mixture of MEYLE and TRW, at a significant cost saving. But are they any good? What are the common 996 chassis problems? And how difficult is it to replace chassis arms on your Porsche 911? I've answered all this and more after taking "Little Irish" to Wrightune, an independent Porsche specialist in Wallingford, Oxfordshire.
