Hobbiton Movie Set Tour, Long version
One of New Zealand’s most popular and top attractions.

On the early morning we drove from Auckland to Hobbiton village. It took 2 hours to get there and it was very convenient and comfortable driving due to updated road project Waikato Expressway.

It was a great journey to walk through the hobbit holes, Green Dragon Inn, mill and other structures we saw in the movies. It was fascinating to see the detail that went into making the movies. We were lucky to see the hobbit cat too! Pickles the cat, only permanent resident in Shire. The tour departures daily from The Shire's Rest and it takes 2 hours including transport between The Shire's Rest and the Movie Set.

The Hobbiton Movie Set was a significant location used for The Lord of the Rings film trilogy and The Hobbit film trilogy. It is situated on a family run farm about 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) west of Hinuera and 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) southwest of Matamata, in Waikato, New Zealand, and is now a Tolkien tourism destination, offering a guided tour of the set.
