Daniel Theis has agreed to sign with the New Orleans Pelicans on a one-year deal. The 31-year-old veteran center, who played 59 games with the LA Clippers last season after reaching a buyout with the Indiana Pacers, will bring his experience and skills to the Pelicans’ frontcourt. Theis averaged 6.3 points and 4.1 rebounds with the Clippers in the previous season. This move comes as the Pelicans needed to fill the gap left by departing centers like Jonas Valanciunas, Larry Nance Jr., and Cody Zeller. Theis is set to play for Germany in the upcoming Summer Olympics after being part of the German squad that won the FIBA World Cup last summer.
Theis’ offensive game is highlighted by his scoring ability in the paint and from beyond the arc, along with his knack for setting screens to create scoring opportunities for his teammates. With this signing, the Pelicans now have multiple options at center, including Theis, Yves Missi (drafted 21st overall), and JRE. The addition of Theis provides valuable depth and experience to their frontcourt rotation for the upcoming NBA season.
