George V and Mary of Teck married on July 6th 1893 at the Chapel Royal in St. James's Palace. The match was initially not intended: George wished to marry his cousin, Princess of Marie of Edinburgh. But she rejected his proposal and later went on to marry the future King of Romania. And for Mary: She firstly got engaged to George’s older brother, Albert Victor. But Albert died six weeks after the engagement. George’s grandmother, Queen Victoria, thought of Mary as an excellent bride and wished for George to marry her. A year after the death of his brother he proposed to Mary and the wedding took place a few months later. The couple became fond of eachother and went on to have six children. Out of their six children only one of them was a daughter, Mary.
