ok not this time ๐
you need lots and lots of patience with the bushcraft bow drill method as you probably will (I deffo did anyways) have quite a few failed attempts before finally getting the first ember that lasts more than a few seconds
for me it was summer 2020 when I got a good ember that lasted
I was able to get this tiny ember into some tinder and get an actual flame YIPPEE ๐๐๐
just need to capture it on camera now, hang in dur it's coming soon ๐
in this setup,,,
the spindle and base board are both IVY wood ,,, standing dead IVY from a old fallen tree that the IVY was on
the bearing block is a plastic container / lid approx 3 cm diameter, with a metal wine bottle top inside to protect the plastic from damage or melting with the heat from the friction (yes this deffo happens)
the bow is about 45 cm straight wood, quite bendy, that's good for the bow btw ๐
I had (and recommend) a bow with a natural curve in the wood
I did have one and it was great but the wood dried out over the last 4 years I had it and it became brittle and broke
the string is strong garden twine / string
