I am still in Monemvasia, slowly getting used to being back and taking the days slow and the nights with a bit more vigour. It's also a very special festival time in Monemvasia where a traditional mock battle takes place in the bay. The fisherman chases a pirate boat (which is a symbol for the Turkish invaders) around the bay, playing loud music and dropping sound bombs. It all culminates in the "pirate boat" bursting into flames and fireworks! It celebrates national pride and freedom from Turkish oppression, with Greek traditional dancing and activities.
