Most people use red pots as they look better. But I prefer the black ones as they have less muddy odor.

There are 3 main steps involved in seasoning a Clay Pot.
Soaking: Removes Extra Muddy smell from the Pot.
Coating the base with Oil: Ensures that the bottom porous part is also sealed well.
Treating with Oil: Again it ensures that the porous pot is sealed well from the inside too.

Note:
1: Do not heat an empty pot for more than 3 minutes. The empty pot might get cracked due to excess heat.
2: Never use any dishwashing liquids/bars for cleaning the pots. With a plastic scrubber, scrub the pots lightly with a mixture of lemon/salt and rinse thoroughly with plain water.
