The extra dollar spent on this XLR microphone upgrade resulted in appreciable reduction in microphone's self-noise, especially noticable when mic is used in the boomed position outside the camera frame. The Audio Technica AT875R short shotgun microphone's noise floor was almost 20dB quieter than the Samson G Track USB condenser microphone.
