It's been a few years since my last visit to this wreck. We ventured out on the Island Diver for a couple of wreck dives on the Palawan. The Palawan is a very large wreck with a total length of 441' with a breadth of 57' weighing in at 14,250 tons and todays maximum depth was 130.3 feet at the sand. This massive ship was dismantled and turned into an artificial reef in1977. The old Redondo fishing barge was anchored to it and then later sunk for the same purpose. I really enjoy diving this wreck due to there being so many cutouts and mini tunnels. Richard Hui had mentioned its like going through the death star from the 80's video game Star Wars. Todays dives were cold. I'm not sure if this is from upwelling from the nearby submarine canyon but the thermocline was at between 7-10 feet. The bottom temp was a balmy 52 degrees which made deco fun. My teeth were chattering when I got back on the boat and it was totally worth it.
