August is a highly anticipated month in the northern parts of Ethiopia, marked by the vibrant Ashenda festival in the Tigray regional state. During Ashenda, young women and girls gather to celebrate with new dresses, elaborate hairstyles, jewelry, and hand drums, chanting traditional songs for days and even weeks. This festival has seen a surge in popularity both locally and internationally in recent years, thanks to its rich history and cultural significance.

Ashenda Bkolaha is about playing Ashenda when you’re still young. Traditionally it’s young unmarried women aged 15-18 who used to play it.

በ1960 ዓ.ም የተመሰረተው የትግራይ ባህል ቡድን በትግራይ ክልል ትልልቅ ስራዎችን የሰራ ቡድን ሲሆን ዝነኛና ስመጥር አርቲስቶችንም አፍርቷል። ከ2004 ዓ.ም ወዲህም ራሱን ሁለተኛው ትውልድ በማለት ከድሮዎቹ 3 አባላቱን በመያዝና ሌሎች 30 አባላትን በመጨመር በክልሉ የሚገኙ የተለያዩ ባህሎችን ሀገር ውስጥም ከሀገር ውጪም የማስተዋወቅ ስራዎች ሰርቷል።

ከእነዚህም መካከል ከክልሉ የተለያዩ ብሄሮች የተውጣጣ አልበም መስራት ፣ በየአመቱ በሚከበረው የብሄር ብሄረሰብ ቀን ክልላቸውን በመወከል የሙዚቃ ስራቸውን ማቅረብ ፣ ሰላም ፌስቲቫልን ጨምሮ የተለያዩ ፌስቲቫሎች ላይ ስራቸውን ማቅረብ፣ ከሀገር ውጪ በአንጎላ እና በኳታር ስራቸውን ማቅረብ እንደ ምሳሌ የሚነሱ ናቸው።

ለምለሙን የምድር ሳር በወገባቸው አስረው ከግራ ወደ ቀኝ እያመላለሱ፣ በእጃቸው እያጨበጨቡ፣ ከበሮ እየመቱ ተሰባስበው በፍቅር የሚያከብሩት የአሸንዳን በዓልም ምክንያት በማድረግ "የአሸንዳ ጨዋታዎች" የተሰኘ አልበም አዘጋጅተናል።

ከአልበሙ ውስጥ ኣሸንዳ ብቆልዓኻ የተሰኘው ዜማ አሸንዳን ልጅ እያሉ ስለመጫወት የሚገልጽ ነው፡፡ በተለምዶ ቀደም ሲል ይህን ጨዋታ የሚጫወቱት እድሜያቸው ከ15-18 ያሉ ያላገቡ ልጃገረዶች ናቸው፡፡
