The Río Sumpul Massacre, from Testimonies to Memorial” combina diferentes fuentes que datan de 2014 a 2024. Fue creada por la estudiante de arquitectura Kelsey Van Oost en el marco de su disertación de maestría en la Universidad KU Leuven, bajo la supervisión del profesor Harold Fallon.

El video presenta un retrato sintético de la masacre del río Sumpul y los esfuerzos de la Asociación Sumpul por crear un memorial en el mismo lugar donde sucedió y donde se han hecho conmemoraciones anuales desde 1986. El video incluye filmaciones originales realizadas en el marco de la iniciativa Memoria Histórica Sobreviviente en El Salvador de la Posguerra, y también imágenes de dron tomadas por Shawn Robertson. Incluye además extractos de “Las Aradas: Masacre en Seis Actos”, documental de Marcela Zamora (2014); extractos de “Las masacres de Chalatenango” de Juan Bello (Triana Media, 2022) y fotografías del lugar tomadas por la firma de arquitectura AgwA.

Este video fue presentado en las exhibiciones colaborativas sobre arte y arquitectura sobre el “Río Sumpul Massacre Memorial” en el centro KADOC KU Leuven (marzo 2024) y en el Centro Cultural de España en San Salvador (julio-agosto 2024)

The Río Sumpul Massacre, from Testimonies to Memorial combines different sources dating from 2014 to 2024. It was created by architecture student Kelsey Van Oost, in the framework of her Master Dissertation at KU Leuven, supervised by Harold Fallon.

The video synthetically portrays the Río Sumpul Massacre and the Asociación Sumpul’s efforts to create a memorial on its site, where annual commemorations are held since 1986. It includes original footages made in the framework of the “Surviving Memory in Postwar El Salvador”, drone footage by Shawn Robertson, extracts from Las Aradas: Masacre en Seis Actos, a documentary by Marcela Zamora (2014), extracts from The Chalatenango Massacres by Juan Bello (Triana Media, 2022), and photographs of the construction site by AgwA architects.

This video was presented in the collaborative exhibitions on art and architecture about the Río Sumpul Massacre Memorial at KADOC KU Leuven (March 2024) and Centro Cultural de España en San Salvador (July-August 2024)
