Nearing the halfway point of the National Route N2 through the heart of Portugal, stopping to take in the sights of the beautiful towns and villages.
The old original route of the N2 winds its way through the mountains with the trees shedding their autumn-coloured leaves it's a wonderful place to be.

Watching the sunrise behind the mountains on a clear sunny morning doesn't get any better. We continued our journey leaving Vila de Rei and turning left at the last roundabout to drive the original Rota N2 route rather than the newer main road. So glad we did as the road was really nice to drive and so pretty through all the trees and hillside. This old N2 road takes you further down to the huge historic town of Abrantes, with its walled castle sitting on top of the hill in the centre overlooking the river Tagus.
