Watch Uldis' workflow for creating a 2nd level block-out of the female lips. This video includes both his sculpting process and color-coding the model.

Borders don't exist in organic forms, so there is not one right way to create a block-out. Uldis creates block-outs based on his knowledge of anatomy and his subjective choices as an artist.

The resulting model is intended to break down the complex anatomy of the mouth area and explain all its elements through simple shapes.

About the author:

The author Uldis Zarins teaches anatomy at the Art Academy of Latvia and is an award-winning sculptor with 25+ years of experience. In spring 2013, he launched a Kickstarter campaign. The fantastic Anatomy For Sculptors community came together and quickly crowdfunded the idea for the book. Since then, he has become a published author.
